The most frequent causes of loose abdominal skin and muscles include pregnancy and, as well, exaggerated weight fluctuations. Due to either of these two events, not only is there an accumulation of a fatty layer beneath the skin but also a looseness of the abdominal muscles and the skin.
Tummy tuck surgery consists of liposculpture of the abdominal fat, followed by tightening of the abdominal muscles and reshaping and tightening of the abdominal skin. Lastly, the umbilicus is also reconstructed, resulting in a natural-looking, flat abdomen.
The abdominoplasty is performed at our clinic, under general or spinal anesthesia and takes approximately two hours to complete. It requires an overnight stay at our clinic and, for these patients, we make all necessary arrangements for their return home the next morning.
You will be instructed not to do any heavy lifting or strenuous activities for one month. Discomfort is categorized as mild to moderate. Many patients mention that the pain is similar to that of a cesearian. Mild swelling may persist for up to three months.
We also provide you with a compressive garment that needs to be worn for 4 weeks as well as silicone gel to be applied to all incisions in order to promote the best possibly healing.
