Ear Pinning Surgery at Dr. Papanastasiou’s Clinic in Montreal

Over-prominence of the ears is a developmental problem, which is first noticed by the parents of a child at a very young age. It can easily become a source of embarrassment and result in lack of self-confidence.

The surgery consists of correcting the over-prominence of cartilage on the back of the ear and this can usually be carried out any time after the age of 5 years.

Our Practice

The best candidates are healthy individuals with no medical history that could lead to postoperative complications. Dr. Papanastasiou will be in a good position to tell you if you are a good candidate for this surgery.

The procedure most often is carried out under local anesthesia in our surgical clinic and involves a small incision on the back of your ear and several sutures being placed in the cartilage, folding the cartilage to pin the ear back and give it a more natural appearance.

A dressing is applied and is usually removed one week after the operation. Post-operative discomfort should be minimal as is the bruising and swelling. You can return to normal activities within one week but should be careful with contact sports for at least 4 to 6 weeks.
